Record flood levels on the rise .

India Flood

Have you noticed all the extreme flooding lately? In this article we’re going to talk about all of the record floods that are happening around the world, and they’ll probably be increasing over the next forty to seventy years. This is because we are heading into a grand solar minimum, which they are calling the Eddy Minimum.

We began experiencing the effects in our weather from this cycle, starting around 2017. Now a grand solar minimum generally lasts about 40-70 years, so during this time we can expect to see more extreme flooding, and probably more issues with dams overflowing.

We’ll talk about some of the record floods we’ve been seeing, and I’ll include some news videos, so you can see these for yourself. Some of the videos are really breathtaking, showing cars and even buses being engulfed in water, and swept away by flash floods.

Here’s a video showing a bus in Northern India, being swept away by a severe flash flood.

Since 2017 we’ve seen a serious uptick in these floods, so we’ll take a look at this historic record flooding that we’re now seeing in so many places.

There have recently been flood records set for the Mississippi River, Lake Erie, lake michigan, and the one that hit a little close to home for me, the Oroville Dam incident.

The Oroville Dam Overflowed.

The Oroville Dam overflowed in 2017. In February of 2017 the spillway of Oroville Dam was damaged. As the rains kept coming and the water kept Rising, they decided to use the emergency spillway. This was just an Earthen spillway, it wasn’t concrete like the main spillway, and started to quickly carve into the Mountainside.

Oroville Dam Overflows

At this point they felt that this would lead to an imminent dam breach. They then evacuated the town of Oroville and the surrounding areas. There were over 180,000 people evacuated. They said that if the dam were to collapse, it would flood the cities below, along the Feather River and the Sacramento River.

They were warning that it would even majorly flood the city of Sacramento. Hey wait a minute, that’s where my house is, and I don’t live far from the Sacramento River. So this one was really a concern to me. But would have been completely devastating to the people of Oroville.

The Mississippi River flood breaks records.

Mississippi River Floods

In 2019 the Mississippi River remained above flood stage longer than anytime in recorded history. Record high flood levels of the Mississippi River flowed right through the breadbasket of America, destroying much of our most fertile farmland. This will absolutely affect the price of our food over the next few years.

The Mississippi River is one of the longest rivers in the world, when it overtopped it’s banks, it not only destroyed farmland, but it flooded the cities and homes throughout the center of the United States. There are a lot of rivers that feed into the Mississippi, this makes a large portion of the central United States, a watershed for the Mississippi River.

Over the last few years it seems as if the storm tracks have been following a certain path, seemingly targeting this watershed area. If the storm tracks continue on this trend, as we enter the Eddy minimum and extreme flooding becomes common place, the Mississippi River and the Great Lakes will be areas to pay attention to.

Flash flooding in Washington, D.C.

Washington DC Floods

Our nations capitol also seen record flooding in 2019, 3-4 inches of rain fell in some areas in a period of about an hour, causing flash flooding in the streets of Washington, D.C. The rain was so intense that even the basement of the White House was flooded.

The National Archives, which is home to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. was also flooded and had to close due to a power outage. None of the documents in the National Archives were damaged. A flash flood warning was in effect for most of the day, and many of the roads were either closed or washed out.

The Orange County flood of 2019.

Orange County Flood.

Orange County California, and the surrounding areas were inundated by a torrential flood that left some vehicles completely under water. There were dirty waterlines on buildings showing the water was nearly 5 feet deep, and some cars floated up onto the curbs.

Pamona Avenue in Costa Mesa was more of a river than a road, Newport Beach was also pounded by this storm, dropping a few inches of rain in a very short period of time. The Pacific Coast Highway and Balboa Island were also flooded.

This is one for the record books for Orange County, it covered such a large and populated area, flooding streets and homes, and closing schools and businesses. It’s a good thing some of those people have surf boards.

The Arkansas River Flood – State of Emergency.

Arkansas River Flooded

There was so much damage done by the Arkansas River flooding, that they declared a state of emergency in Oklahoma. Now the Arkansas River runs through and has flooded many states, but Missouri may have caught the brunt of the flooding. But that’s a tough call, the damage was widespread.

Many of the residents of numerous states, say they have never seen flooding like this before. It’s heartbreaking when you see the pictures of the homes, with water just inches from the edge of their roofs.

The pressure on the levees from the Arkansas River at its flood stage levels eventually caused the levee to break in Dardanelle Arkansas. This flooded a massive amount of farmland, forcing farmers to move their animals, and flooded more than 75 homes because of this breach.

A reporter was showing a part of the Arkansas River, where it was so flooded that it was actually running backwards, back into Arkansas’s Lake Conway. Arkansas was another one of those States where you saw widespread extreme flooding, there were lots of reports and pictures, of homes under feet of water.

There was one incident that really had people worried, when two massive barges were uncontrollably floating down the Arkansas River. The concern was, that there was a dam downstream in Webber’s Falls Oklahoma, well they were unable to stop them, and both barges came crashing into the dam.

If the dam had collapsed, it would have meant catastrophic flooding for the people below. Thank goodness the dam was stronger than the barges. It seemed to just easily rip the barges to shreds as they hit the walls of the Dam. This was good news for everybody below.

The Missouri River Flood of 2019.

Missouri River Floods

Missouri’s governor Mike Parson issued a state of emergency for Missouri. This is because of the torrential flooding, that was caused by the Missouri River when it crested. The epic amount of rainfall in 2019, overflowed the banks of the Missouri River and caused levees to breach.

The damages to homes and farmland are in the billions of dollars. The town of Winthrop had to be evacuated when the Levee breached. Another Levee breach forced the evacuation of the entire town of Craig Missouri. The city of Hamburg Iowa was also completely flooded, and it’s located miles away miles away from the Missouri River.

The Missouri river is the longest river in the United States, Meandering some 2341 miles. It flows from the Rocky Mountains in western Montana, to where it empties into the Mississippi River just North of St. Louis, Missouri. Because of it’s massive watershed, and the snow melt from the Rocky Mountains, the Missouri River will be more prone to flooding, as we enter into the Eddy Minimum and experience more extreme weather.

How should we prepare for a flood?

I have to think that having some extra food and water around the house is one of the most important things. You always see on the news how quickly the shelves in the grocery stores get cleaned out when any sort of natural disaster happens. So try and imagine what you would need, if you were stuck inside your home for a while without running water or electricity.

Maybe have some life jackets or some sort of floatation devices somewhere in your home, especially if someone in your family can’t swim. Most importantly, if you do go out and drive, don’t drive through water that you don’t know how deep or swift it is. The video at the top of the page, of the bus getting swept off the road is a good example of this.
